A Cover of Fresh Snow

4th February 2017

An unpleasant, cloudy and damp day. But, fresh snow began settling on the mountains above 800 metres by late morning with the snowline at 500 metres later as colder air arrived. The snow is forecast to continue into the night before easing into a bright and mainly dry day tomorrow. Unfortunately, amounts of new snow will not be significant.

Low cloud and mist persisted for most of the morning on Beinn Eighe with light rain at all levels.

The lack of snow seemed to be accentuated by the mist.

By early afternoon on Creag Dhubh, Beinn Eighe, the snowline was lowering to 500 metres, albeit a light dusting at this point.

Encouraging to see Mountain Equipment GoreTex working as the rainwater beads and runs off the waterproofs.
