Very Wet, Very Windy, Mild

23rd December 2016

Not really a day to be out on the hill! Very difficult walking conditions with all the rivers and burns in full flow due to the heavy rain and snow melt. The snowpack is looking patchy with large areas bare of snow. However, colder conditions arrived this afternoon (which will halt the thaw) with snow showers developing. It will remain very windy.

Creag Dhubh, Beinn Eighe and the Allt a’ Chuirn in spate.

Change of plans. The normal crossing is unacceptable today.

The North-East aspect of Creag Dhubh and Coire Domhain, east end of Beinn Eighe. An all too brief break in the heavy rain reveals the extent of the snow melt. After being pinned down for the third time and blown over on numerous occasions, it was time to go home!

Colder conditions arriving in the Fannichs in the afternoon and a few breaks in the cloud. However, the severe wind persisted.
