Thawing

11th April 2022

Today was mild with strong winds causing the snow cover to rapidly thaw. I headed to Meall Gorm in the Fannichs, using a bike to reach Fannich Lodge. This approach from the South gives a short walk up Meall Gorm. The first photos were taken from the summit of Meall Gorm at around 11am. There was a noticeable difference in the snow cover on my way up and down so expect cover to be further reduced tomorrow. It does however feel wintry and there is still good cover on many slopes above 700 metres. Ridges have less snow than corries and gullies.

Looking into Garbh Choire Mor on the approach. The peak on the left is 800 metres. Significantly less snow here than elsewhere in the Fannichs.
