Fannaichs

10th March 2023

A day of sunshine and isolated snow showers in the Fannaichs. Another cold day but the sun is beginning to affect the snow on Southerly aspects where it is thawing at lower levels. Otherwise, there is a general covering of shallow, mostly unconsolidated snow, most notably on shaded aspects. Minor and localised instabilities persist in pockets of windslab on high SW to W aspects – generally avoidable.

(Above 2 photos) Sgurr Mor, Carn na Criche and Meall a’ Chrasgaidh. There was limited redistribution of snow today except during snow showers. And no new cornice growth observed.

(Above) Ice is reforming on shaded aspects, but in limited amounts. It remains a very cold, dry and loose snowpack on shaded aspects.
