Snow Today.

It felt much more like winter today. There was fresh snow at all levels this morning. Less fresh snow than expected though, particularly at higher elevations. Accumulations are generally shallow, greatest accumulations are in sheltered locations such as coire rims, ridge flanks and gullies. A warmer day again tomorrow will mean the snow cover  thawing and diminishing, there will also be a period of instability as the temperature rises. Colder weather will follow on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Creag Dubh, Beinn Eighe. Localised areas of fresh windslab are visible. These are generally shallow and moderately bonded.
Significant spin drift approaching the first steepening. The wind was very variable in both strength and direction. The winds were stronger at this point than when I was higher up the mountain.
Another spindrift picture. The wind is moving snow in the opposite direction in this picture to the previous one!
Early stage cornice development
Looking across a South-East facing aspect towards the Black Carls on Sgurr nan Fhir Dubh, Beinn Eighe. This slope had more new snow accumulation than any other seen today. Accumulations were still generally shallow here.
