The Assistant is Mildly Impressed!

A wintry day on the tops; snow showers, strong wind and icy underfoot. I was joined today by an ‘assistant’ who was more intent on taking photos than assisting. I admit that he did carry my rucsack – on occasion. Pockets of fresh windslabĂ‚Â are forming in sheltered aspects above 800m, albeit, shallow and avoidable.
At the snow profile site above Coire an Laoigh, Beinn Eighe at 860m. A dusting of fresh snow generally with exposed areas scoured. Photobombed by ‘The Assistant’!
Looking to Liathach from Stuc Coire an Laoigh. Most areas of snow is soft old snow, with a surface crust at higher elevations and has good stability.
Very strong winds and frozen icy ground on the exposed ascent to the summit of Spidean Coire nan Clach. A windchill of around -12C. The Assistant was mildly impressed! A little fresh windslab lying on top of an old snow drift on the right (sheltered side) of the shoulder. Otherwise, scoured elsewhere.
Most old snow and fresh snow also is on North to East aspects – on the right side of the ridge.

The Assistant got his comeuppance. Enforced wearing of orange trousers a fitting punishment. Harsh but fair.

Assistant shouldn’t be allowed on the hill with no rucksack. Definitely not allowed wearing orange pants. Doesn’t he know yellow is this seasons colour?
