A Warm Merry Christmas

25th December 2018

A largely dry and bright Christmas day and very mild! There was a significant temperature inversion today as the incoming warm air rode over the top of the denser cold air at lower elevations; 3C at the carpark (270m), 9C at 450m and 7C at 900m! This also created a ‘squeezing’ effect of the warm air with very strong winds at summit level whilst it remained calm in the glens.

How did Santa know I would be here…? The best mince pie ever!

Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich, the location for today’s ‘snowpack’ obs.

Sgurr Mor (pictured) and Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich could be holding onto the most snow in the North West! An Teallach on the distant right.

The view north-west from BLMF with Loch Broom and Ullapool in the middle distance. An Teallach on the left and the coastal hills of Ben Mor Coigach, Stac Pollaidh, Cul Beag and Cul Mor distant right.

Cloud formations above Beinn Dearg. Wave bars and lenticulars started to form ahead of strengthening winds.
