Mild, Cloudy and Wet

27th March 2018

A dusting of fresh overnight snow above 700m. Outbreaks of rain pushed into the area from the south this morning, with rain at all levels by the afternoon as the freezing level rose to above the summits. Cloud base generally around 650m so good views were at a premium. The thawing and wet spring snowpack is generally well consolidated, but becoming patchy.

Liathach and Coire an Laoigh, Beinn Eighe from Glen Torridon – as seen between periods of rain! The general snowline is around 650m.

A dusting of fresh snow on Liathach above around 700 metres first thing this morning which thawed later in the day.

Rain inexorably approaching from the south.

Looking into upper Coire an Laoigh, Beinn Eighe, the location for today’s snow profile. And then the cloud descended! Reasonable snow cover hanging in there.
