Significant Snow Loss

22nd March 2018

Definitely a spring feel to the day although cool at height in the strong Southerly winds. A much depleted snowpack, particularly at lower elevations. It remains consolidated and stable throughout.

Large areas bare of snow on Creag Dhubh, Beinn Eighe.

Similar amounts of snow loss in Liathach.

Beinn Alligin and Liathach looking across Upper Loch Torridon. Less snow remains on the more coastal mountains.

The Cioch Nose on Sgurr a’ Chaorachain of the Applecross mountains is climbable – as a rock climb.

Most remnant cornice lines are stable, particularly as colder conditions push in from the West accompanied by lowering freezing levels.
