Good Walking Conditions
14th March 2018
A bright and breezy day with a generally stable and firm snowpack. Some breakable crust has formed at lower levels. Cloud generally well above summit level.
Looking into the north aspects of Beinn Eighe from Meall a’ Ghuithais above Loch Maree. Good snow cover exists above 600 metres.
The north face of the north top, Meall a’ Guithais. Good firm snow despite slow thaw conditions. Some residual cornices evident and ‘rotting’ icefalls.
As the day progressed, the cloudscape changed dramatically, with lenticulars and wave bars developing over the higher summits to the east. Indicative of high winds at altitude and strong winds later at lower elevations. Ben Wyvis highlighted in the background to the left of Fionn Bheinn.
A day in the office with the Munros of Slioch, Ruadh Stac Mor and A Mhaighdean as a backdrop. It’s tough….
