High Winds and Thawing
14th January 2018
It’s not often you struggle to exit the car due to strong winds, but today was one of those days. Parked on the Bealach na Ba, Applecross in the cloud at a height of 620m, it was a no brainer to make the snowpack observations not far from the road after struggling to stay on my feet heading up the track to the summit of Sgurr a’ Chaorachain. Much milder today with the temperature reaching double figures in Kinlochewe and an obvious snow loss on the hills. Rain, with hill sleet and snow arrived by early afternoon and the wind continued to strengthen!
