The cloud was down as I walked in this morning but I was relatively sheltered from the winds by the pine trees.
Clouds of spindrift.
Descending in the afternoon, an additional incentive…. the sun shone briefly.

Hi looking at today’s snowpack (27th Dec) it says in profile that the pack is isothermal , although the bar chart suggests fluctuation with depth or am I missing something ?

Hi Lenny. Apologies for not replying to your query sooner. Re the snow profile on December 27, the term ‘isothermic’ relates to the temperature profile (degrees centigrade – red line) of the snowpack, measured every 10cm and not to the snowpack itself. ‘Iso’ broadly meaning the same and ‘thermic’ relates to temperature. The temperature profile on 27/12 is zero degrees through the total depth of snow from surface to ground level, i.e. the same temperature throughout. Note that since the temperature at ground level is always zero degrees, then it will imply that an isothermic snowpack will be at zero degrees.
