Squally Showers in the Fannichs

30th March 2026

Squally showers all day today. Showers were heavy with strong winds with some more pleasant conditions in between. Photos were taken in the more pleasant conditions between the showers so don’t reflect the more challenging weather. Photos were also taken this morning with further windslab development through the day. In some locations the snow was blowing down the mountain giving very little build up, in other areas there was constant drifting with some windslab development and small cornices starting to develop. All wind exposed slopes and ridges had very little snow. A change to rain and mild temperatures overnight Monday into Tuesday. Any instability caused by the temperature rise and rain will be overnight Monday, with much better stability of remaining snow during daylight hours on Tuesday. There will be a rapid thaw of the snowpack with river levels expected to be high through Tuesday and into Wednesday.

Looking over Druim Reidh to Sgurr nan Clach Geala, some small cornices just visible on the summit ridge.

Sgurr nan Each

Meall Gorm in the centre, while the East facing corrie on the right holds snow and more was drifting in during the day, ridges and windward slopes have very little. Meall nam Peithirean just visible on the left.

An Coileachan first thing this morning. There was further snow build up during the day, however these peaks weren’t visible on my return to get an updated photo.

Looking across Loch Fannich to Fionn Bheinn. The south facing approach from Achnasheen will have a lot less snow.
