Getting colder

5th March 2026

After a mild night, the temperature dropped quite quickly today and rain turned to snow for a time on the hills before becoming drier at the end of the day.

The snowpack remains patchy with best cover on North-West through North to East aspects above 800 metres. Despite the recent mild conditions the snowpack remains fairly firm.

Snow patches at 700 metres.

Wet, sticky snow at 620 metres late morning.

Liathach above Torridon village.

Temperatures at 925 metres on Fionn Bheinn for the last 5 days. Lots of melt/freeze cycles, good for snowpack stability, with another freeze starting today.

The cloud lifted and the rain/snow stopped later in the afternoon giving some views of Beinn Eighe, below.
