Misty and mild

8th February 2026

It was a really nice change to experience light winds today on Beinn Liath Bheag, albeit still from a South-Easterly direction. Unfortunately, the ‘poor visibility’ trend continued, with zero views on the high tops leaving my foray into the Northern Fannaich’s a little ‘lacking in lustre’ on the photo front.

There is still plenty of old, firm snow above 700m, with patchy cover at lower elevations. (Travel to the high tops definitely requires axe and crampons for safe travel). A freezing level on, or just above the summits today and tomorrow is unlikely to have a significant softening effect. The snow that remains continues to consolidate and presents no hazard. The photos below give a flavour of conditions today.

Old, firm consolidated snow at 650m. NE aspect on Beinn Liath Bheag. At this elevation, the snow is patchy.

This is the summit plateau of Beinn Liath Bheag (665m) Hope you are enjoying the view as much as I did….
