Driech

21st February 2026

Challenging to get any pictures today, that weren’t just a grey indistinguishable haze! It’s been a driech day indeed. More persistent rain came in this afternoon, and unfortunately this will lead to snow loss. Temperature information is always a key factor, and we are lucky enough to have a weather station on Fionn Bhienn which gives us up to date temperatures at Munro level. (See screen shot below). It can be seen that by this afternoon, the temperatures had risen to above summit level again.

It’s available to find online on the Holfuy website, and a search will find quite a few other weather stations dotted around the Scottish Mountains. Very useful for planning.

The snowpack is thawing and consolidating. There may be a cosmetic dusting of snow on the higher summits tomorrow morning, but Monday into Tuesday goes very warm and wet.
