Clear and Sunny in the Fannichs

28th February 2026

Clear, cold sunny conditions gave some stunning views today. Observations were from Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich allowing a good opportunity to see how much snow remains on many of the hills in the Fannichs and surrounding area. While the old snow is patchy, some significant areas remain, notably in gullies corries and around summit areas. There was also a superficial covering of fresh snow on the higher summits. Despite the shade air temperature being below freezing this superficial snow was disappearing quickly where exposed to the sun.

The existing snow is currently very firm and with cold temperatures overnight is likely to remain that way through most of Sunday. Sunday is forecast to be more overcast than today with occasional showers, these will fall as snow on the summits overnight and turn to rain at most levels during the day.
