Cooler again

13th January 2026

The temperature dropped today and the existing snowpack now has a frozen surface except at low elevations where it continues to slowly thaw. This frozen surface is a breakable crust in many places. There was a little fresh snow which combined with South-Westerly winds has produced shallow and isolated areas of windslab in sheltered locations.

The summits were mostly in cloud today but some photos below of what could be seen.

Fionn Bheinn summit corrie.

Fionn Bheinn never quite cleared.

Looking down from high on Fionn Bhenn towards Achnasheen.

A patchy cover of older snow with a dusting of fresh snow at 450 metres. Valleys mostly snow free now.
