Views between the clouds in the Fannichs

29th December 2025

Today started dry and clear with only a few clouds. Clouds developed from mid morning bringing drizzle at most levels over much of the area. The temperature was just above freezing at most heights with very little change in temperature with height. Photos show the best views I could get of the Northern side of the Fannichs in a few rare breaks in the cloud.

Only patches of snow remain, however these patches are very firm and could have serious consequences in the event of a trip or slip. The largest areas of snow are on steep North to East aspects just below the highest summits in the Northern Fannichs (mostly Sgurr Mor) with small patches in similar locations elsewhere.

Some summit snow is forecast for Wednesday although this could be rain at most levels for Torridon. However a northerly airflow is forecast to bring more more significant snow to lower levels is forecast from Thursday.

A closer look at the snow in a North East aspect just below the summit of Sgurr Mor. The summit remained hidden in the clouds while I was there.
