Thawing

After some overnight snow showers the freezing level rose above the summits early this morning. By midday the temperature at 925 metres on Fionn Bheinn was 3.8 degrees Celsius. Most of the snow in the area was in a thin layer on the summits and this thawed quickly today leaving only isolated patches.

The mild conditions were accompanied by gale force South-South-Westerly winds and rain both of which increased the melt rate.

It wasn’t a great day for photographs with most of the summits in cloud but a few pictures of what could be seen below.
