Cloudy inversion conditions in the Fannaichs

25th December 2025

With anticyclonic complex inversion conditions around the summits, there were multiple and variable cloud layers and bases, with an ill defined freezing level. I set out with complete cover of mid-altitude cloud and was rewarded with some nice breaks in the cloud and some lovely cloud effects.

The remaining snow is firm and stable. It lies mainly around coire rims, on steep upper slopes and at the tops of some gullies above 900 metres on North to East aspects.

The firm snow has serious run outs with potentially serious consequences in the event of a slip or trip.
