Stubborn cloud
18th February 2025
I decided to venture more inland today for the observations but this seemed a bit futile if honest due to the poor visibility. The SAIS Forecaster is always optimistic for views and blog photos but there is only so much loitering and lingering one can do, before defeat is admitted.
We did have some fresh snow overnight down to 500 metres. Small, insignificant amounts which slowly started to thaw during the day as the freezing level started to rise. Therefore the previous days blog photos are a good representation of the current conditions.
The freezing level will be above the summits tomorrow so it is expected that the existing snowpack will gradually start to soften, slower (if at all) in the high coires where snow cover is greatest.

Ribbons of ice still remain down to low levels.

Meall a’Chrasgaidh (934m) visible for about a second.

Coire Breac reluctantly showing herself later in the day. There didn’t seem to be as much (if any) new snow here compared to other areas.

Ben Wyvis. Technically outwith the SAIS boundary but since I was driving past….
