Fair to say it was a very wet day in the hills today. Freezing level well above the summits. What little snow is left took a battering, and was depleted further.
However, this coming week will start to see a change in the mountains, with freezing level slowly lowering and snow hopefully beginning to accumulate. Tomorrow the mountains will begin to look “cosmetically” white above 800 metres. Then from Tuesday onwards, the forecast is for further snow build up.
It’s likely that the avalanche hazard will change as the week progresses, so watch this space!
Pictures not great today due to poor visibility.

Craig Dubh, on the Eastern end of Beinn Eighe. This seems to be holding the largest of the remaining snow patches on the Beinn Eighe range.

Coire an Laoigh, Beinn Eighe. Holding less snow than Creag Dubh.

Liathach, South East aspect.

Beinn Damh, North East aspects. Showing a lack of snow up to around 900m on the North faces of the more coastal mountains.

Allt Coire Roill waterfall. Sums up today nicely!

Not been much of a winter this year but SAIS details are essential viewing for those of us who venture out every weekend. I have learnt a lot from the SAIS postings and it helps so much with safety, planning and risk management. Thank you for your work each winter.
