Morning Cloudscapes
16th February 2025
The morning began with moody cloudscapes, partly occluding the higher inland summits, slowly dispersing to reveal the patchy remnants of old firm stable snow patches and a ‘whiteness’ from the formation of rime. By mid morning it was again sunny with reasonably clear skies, though remaining very cold especially from the chilling moderate Easterly winds. Temperatures lifted slightly by the middle of the day though a stark contrast between wind sheltered sunshine and exposed shade could obviously be felt. An unscientific measurement calculated about a 3c difference (at 375m), the maximum temperature about 7c. Around the summits it remained sub-zero, only the ‘whiteness’ of rime in wind sheltered locations exposed to the sun thawing.
It will remain cold and dry tomorrow. Later Tuesday and into Wednesday rising temperatures and changing conditions are expected.
