Red Sky in the Morning….
12th January 2025
Sunrise over the Beinn Dearg mountain range. Not a bad start to the day on the way to work!
It was a dry day with strengthening winds and rising temperatures ahead of a frontal system bringing some rain for tomorrow at all levels, but generally light in intensity, However, the mild and damp thawing conditions are likely to affect current weaknesses in the snowpack. This, combined with fragile cornices which may collapse will give a period of heightened instability through the morning. Check the Torridon avalanche forecast page for details. Otherwise, the snow cover will consolidate and diminish, particularly at lower elevations.
