A clear sunny day

10th January 2025

Today was a stunning cold clear day and a great day to be out in the hills. Soft snow remains at most levels in the Torridon area, travel by ski is easier than by foot. Todays observations were from the Beinn Liath Mhor Fannich. It was possible to ski from road to summit, old skis are advised, plenty of hazards particularly at lower elevations. Thin cover in many places with deeper accumulations in some locations higher up, instabilities remain in some of these locations as detailed in the report.  Photos show  snow cover across the area and a couple of peaks just outside our area. Many peaks and slopes look very white, the reality is cover is thinner than it looks in many places.

Skiing is the easiest method of travel just now. I am grateful to the skiers ahead who had put in this track. Beinn Liath Mor on the left, Sgurr Mor behind, Carn na cliche centre and Meall a’ Chrasgaidh on the right.

Meall Gorm (right) and An Coilleachan (behind and left)
