Temperature Inversion Fog
12th December 2024
A layer of freezing fog persisted through the day around the Fannaich mountains – between around 200 and 450 metres. There was good visibility, occasional sunshine and warmer temps above the cloud. Colder again around the higher summits.
(Above) Verglas coated grass and rocks in the freezing fog. Delicate walking conditions!
(Above) Above the fog at 500m, Frosty ground, but above freezing temps just a bit higher.
(Above) The NE faces of Sgurr Mor and Carn na Criche. The ‘black’ rock is a good indication that there is above freezing temperatures.
(Above) Meall a’ Chrasgaidh – NE to E aspects.
(Above) Rime on grass at 500m ‘growing’ into a prevailing NW breeze.
(Above) An Teallach – poor snow cover in the Eastern coires.
