Passing Storm!
7th December 2024
It felt like we dodged the worst of storm Darradh in the NW Highlands. But, there was significant summit snowfall overnight and through the morning in particular and a recorded gust of wind (Northerly) of 87mph on Sgurr a’ Choarachain, Applecross hills this morning. The summits remained cloudy throughout the day – poor conditions for photos!
Despite an improving weather forecast for tomorrow, areas of unstable windslab will persist throughout the day affecting steep terrain on high lee aspects.
Check out the Avalanche Forecast pages on the SAIS website for details.
(Above 2 photos) Snow distribution in the northern Fannaich mountains. Snowline is around 650m and the cloud base around 750m. Really only a dusting on the windward aspects.
(Above) Intense showers from the north during the afternoon.

(Above) More snow at lower levels on West to South-West aspects of Slioch this afternoon.
