Eagle Eyed

28th December 2024

Although it is always a pleasure to be out in the hills (on a ‘good day’), the highlight today was watching a Golden Eagle soar overhead. I’m sure it was eyeing me up. Being observant generally whilst out in the mountains not only helps with navigation, but also allows you to ‘see’.

A better day today than yesterday. Still mild, but less hill cloud and only scattered showers rather than incessant rain! The showers were of light rain and drizzle at all levels. Any lingering patches of old snow are well consolidated and continue to slowly thaw.

There will be a significant amount of snowfall tomorrow afternoon with snow lying above 500m by the end of the day. Visit the SAIS Avalanche Forecast for details.

(Above) Slow moving showers drifted over the more inland mountains of the Torridon forecast area. An Teallach is the mountain on the right.
