Variable snow cover

19th March 2023

Meall a’ Ghiuthais was today’s location for observations. The snow cover is variable with some hills nearly bare of snow and others still holding accumulations in corries and gullies and on summit slopes. It was possible to reach the summit of Meall a’ Ghiuthais (887m) with only a couple of steps on snow. On similar aspects yesterday in Coire an Laoigh, Beinn Eighe there was reasonable cover above 750 metres. The snow surface has begun to refreeze in the colder temperatures. There is a little summit snow forecast for this evening before a return to warmer temperatures tomorrow. Pictures give an idea of the snow cover on the hills around Torridon.
