Wellies!

2nd February 2023

High temps, strong winds and persistent heavy rain last night and though the day means that there is a considerable amount of snow loss and flooding – on the roads, in the fields and floods of tears watching all that snow disappear into the sea! There are burns running down hillsides in the Fannaichs where I’ve never seen burns before. It was a day for wellies and a low level walk.

Below are 3 photos of the high Fannaich mountains showing the extent of snow cover (or lack of it) that remains.

So where has all that snow gone?

Great conditions for whitewater kayakers, maybe not the Corrieshalloch gorge…is that photo 5?

Given the way this winter season has gone perhaps we’ll be wading through snow again in 2-3 weeks time and there will be fat ice everywhere…hope is defintively a required mindset for Scottish winter climbers these days!
