In Search of Snow!

24th January 2022

It was a pretty miserable morning in the Fannaichs; persistent light rain and drizzle with cloud fluctuating between 600 and 800m. and a fresh West wind driving the drizzle! However, it brightened up in the afternoon with some sunny periods between bouts of drizzle. The snow is now very limited in the NW Highlands with the few remaining patches lingering in high North to East aspects above 700m. The mountains are mostly bare.

(Above) I found this snow patch skulking in a depression at around 700m. elevation.

(Above) Mist, drizzle and snowless at the summit of a 720m. hill in the Fannaichs.

(Above) Spot the snow patch in the high Fannaich mountains….?

(Above) Spot the snow patch II….! At least it began to brighten up on the descent.
