Cloud Covered Mountains

23rd December 2021

A dreich day with low cloud, rain and drizzle, particularly on the more inland mountains affected by the strong Easterly airflow. Drier and a higher cloud base on the coastal mountains. Milder than of late at lower to mid levels, meaning that all that lovely hoar frost has gone….!

The old snow cover remains very limited and patchy, firm and stable throughout. Some new snow accumulations are expected overnight, leading to the development of windslab in steep sheltered locations at higher elevations.

(Above) Not a great day for photos. Looking down Glen Torridon onto Liathach on the left and Coire an Laoigh of Beinn Eighe on the right. As good as it got…!
