Wet and windy

7th January 2019

It was dry between the showers, but mainly it has been a day of strong gale force winds and rain, horizontal rain mostly. West winds were 60 mph gusting to 75 on Mullach an Rathain (Liathach) around lunch time.

Creag Dhubh, Beinn Eighe from Kinlochewe at lunch time today, visibility was reasonable enough but on the hill it was almost impossible to stand up in the strong gusts.

Water being blown horizontally and uphill at the Beinn a’ Mhuinidh waterfall. It does not often come into winter conditions but when it does it is graded Scottish grade V. The first ascent was in 1984 by A. Nisbet and P. Thornhill. They actually climbed it on the 27 January 1984:- so going by that historic information  optimists may think it will perhaps be in condition soon!
