Gales!

15th March 2018

A very windy day with South-East gales and severe gales on exposed summits. Remaining mild, but with a high windchill effect in the strong winds. The generally stable snowpack is slowly thawing and becoming patchy at all elevations, although good cover remains above 650 metres.

An angry looking An Teallach this morning. Cloud base around 900 metres initially, rising above the summits later with some good sunny spells. A thawing snowpack with many bare areas on previously windwardly exposed terrain.

The main Fannaich mountains above Loch a’ Bhraoin. The patchy ‘snowline’ starts around 500 metres

Soft wet thawing snow at lower elevations with surface water run-off in places.
