Hill Fog
29th March 2017
Poor visibility today, particularly in the morning and on the more inland mountains as the low cloud was moving in from the east. Brighter and more broken further west with some sunny spells on the coastal hills. Little change in the thawing and limited snowpack – it remains well consolidated.(Above) Some brightness spotted on the more western mountains of the Fannaichs.(Above) As good as it got on the hill! The ‘spring’ snowpack is thawing with a soft moist surface, but firmer below. The beginnings of glide cracks were noted on this slope; 38°, NE facing, around 600m.Not much better on the way down, but good to have some perspective. Looking toward Braemore along the A835. Some of the haze in this photo is due to smoke from muir burning!!
