Mild, Windy and Wet

3rd February 2022

Frequent blustery showers today, with rain at all elevations due to the freezing level staying well above the summits – for most of the day! The SW wind strengthened to give severe gales over the summits in the afternoon and the hills remained shrouded in cloud The freezing level will lower later this afternoon with snow and frequent snow showers overnight and throughout tomorrow. Winter returns with a bang!

(Above) There is little evidence of any snow remaining in the Fannaichs except for minor patches and slivers of the oldest snow lingering around the highest summits.

(Above) After heavy overnight rain, all the watercourses were in spate. This burn is normally easily crossed by skipping across stepping stones – not today!

(Below 2 photos) A snowless landscape below the cloud base in the Fannaich mountains.
