A windy day.

19th January 2020

“Frosty, dry and sunny’ is what the weather man said on Radio 4 but he must have meant in places further south than windy Torridon. Here, we have had very strong South-South-West winds which pinned me down to the slopes at around 600 metres. There was lots of spindrift and blowing graupel and ice pellets which felt like being sandblasted. It was very wintry on the hill but the snow is thawing and by tonight the freezing level is rising to above summit levels.

Drifting snow on Creag Dhubh, Beinn Eighe.

Spin drift.

Wind exposed aspects are scoured.

Signs of high winds, scoured slopes and redistributed “Chalky’ snow.
