Warm, Cloudy, Moist and Windy

29th December 2019

14C in Ullapool this morning and forecast to hit 16C in sheltered Moray! Ordinarily these winter temperatures would be a notable event, but it is becoming ‘normal’ at this time of the year as evident over the past few winters.

The thaw continues and really no significant cold snaps or snow forecast over the next couple of weeks. The strength of the SW wind was the most remarkable feature of todays foray into the hills. 7omph, gusting over 90mph was recorded in the wee hours this morning at Bealach na Ba Met Office weather station. However, it was in the high 50’s, gusting 70’s on the tops through the day. Understandably, the snow is disappearing fast in the North West.

Low cloud stopped play….!

Snow patches around the north top (830m.) of Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich.

Sgurr Mor is somewhere on the right background!

Not much to see and certainly very little evidence of snow on the south side of Beinn Dearg. Cloud base around 800m.
