Spring Snow

20th March 2019

Spring has sprung – again! 13C in Ullapool this afternoon, 7C at 600m and 4C at 800m at midday. A warm, dry and bright morning deteriorated through the afternoon with summit cloud, light rain and strengthening winds. The snowpack is thawing at all levels and becoming patchy. Limited snow below 600m. Good to hear the Golden Plover back in the hills.

The snow extent in the main Fannaich mountains. From L to R; Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich, Sgurr Mor, Carn na Criche and Meall a’ Chrasgaidh.

The eastern aspects of Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich.

The southern aspects of the Beinn Dearg hills.

The northern coires of An Teallach.

Whooper swans enjoying spring feeding in Loch Droma. This mini flock of swans have been around the area for most of the winter.
