Proper Winter’s Day!

9th March 2019

Sunshine and showers – my favourite winter walking conditions. Very strong Westerly wind blowing 50-60mph at times on exposed ridges and summits, particularly as a shower approached. Great views too. Snowpack remains relatively shallow, crusty and icy in places.

Just missed. Another intense shower over An Teallach.

Sharp views. Slioch on the left and the hills around Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair on the right. The next shower didn’t miss!

Spindrift off the shoulder of Druim Reidh, Toman Coinneach – the location for today’s snowpack obs.. Sgurr Breac on the left.

Crusty snow blown clear of fresh deposits

The scoured windward aspects of the main Fannaich mountains.

A’ Chailleach. Most snow is blowing to lower levels in the strong winds. Small areas of windslab observed and some minor cornice development noted.

An Teallach emerging!
