Glorious

7th February 2019

Grand vistas today in the Fannaich mountains. Fine day, light West wind and plenty of sunshine, but very cold in the shade and wind. Clouding over and winds strengthened later, backing South-West. Of note is that pesky breakable crust at all levels, although more weight bearing at summit levels. Still, can’t have it all…..

Classic vista from summit of north top, Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich, from Sgurr Mor on the left to An Teallach.

The main Fannaichs of (L to R) Sgurr Mor, Sgurr nan Clach Geala, Carn na Criche, Meall a’ Chrasgaidh and Loch a’ Mhadaidh

North top, Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich, the location for today’s snow profile. Most of the snowpack has good stability, but localised areas of windslab exists mainly on North to East aspects. Some sizeable cornices noted on the higher summits.

As the wind strengthened, some snow re-distribution occurred. Spindrift blowing from west to east.

The Beinn Dearg massif.
