Busy in The Glen

22nd February 2018

A mainly dry and cloudy day with the odd spot of rain in the afternoon. The cloud remained above the summits. Many folk out today, on and round the back of Liathach using the Coire Dubh Mor path – walking with intent! A slowly diminishing snowpack, particularly at lower elevations. Some ice still hanging in there in the northern coires.

13 vehicles in the main Glen Torridon car park today, including camper vans the dreaded motor homes. Oh no, is this the start of the NC500 season?

South side Liathach. Many bare areas but reasonable snow cover above 700 metres.

Very little ice remains on southerly aspects of Liathach.

The north side of Liathach – a bit more wintry looking.

Choire Dhuibh Bhig on the left and Coireag Dubh Mor on the right. The major ice lines remain whilst the others are a bit thin. At least one party each on Poacher’s Fall and Umbrella Fall in Coireag Dubh Mor. Much old avalanche debris noted, including one full depth slide on the north ridge of Mullach an Rathain.

The cloud was thick enough at times to give a few spots of rain, as seen here on Beinn Alligin.

That ski slope on Creag Dhubh, Beinn Eighe is still winking at me.
