A Wonderful Day!

7th January 2018

One of those all too rare winter days. However, it clouded over in the afternoon, but the cloud base remained above the summits. The early bird got the special views. The snowpack is generally stable, but very localised pockets of moderately well bonded windslab persist. Great ridge walking on mostly soft snow.

Early morning moon over Creag Dhubh, Beinn Eighe

Sunrise over the south Torridon hills, Glen Torridon and Liathach

Beinn Damh and Liathach.

The Beinn Eighe ridge with Beinn Bhan (Applecross), Liathach and Beinn Alligin in the background.

Looking north to Meall a Ghiuthais, Slioch, the mountains of the Great Wilderness and the Fannaichs to the right.

The east end of Beinn Eighe – Sgurr Ban and Sgurr nan Fhir Duibhe – the Fannaichs and Fionn Bheinn.

Had a fantastic day on the two munros of the Western Fannichs- nothing to severe although the ice axe had to make an appearance heading up and down on a few steep slopes! Hope to get more of the stable clear winter weather!

Hi Dan. Sgurr Bhreac and A’Chailleach – two lovely hills and good views. Good weather is set to continue.

Great photos. I had a terrific day on Sunday up your way. Toll an Lochain on An Teallach was wonderful. Hard going still in shin to knee snow.
