Missed Opportunity?

18th December 2017

Very surprised to see how much ice remains (survived 36hrs of thaw and rain) in the northern coires of Liathach. But come to think of it, with nearly 2 weeks of cold northerly/north westerlies…….. I’m afraid the heavy thaw continues. Good walking if you avoid areas of soft wet deep snow.

Below:  Alpenglow and a fine start to the day in Glen Torridon.

The northern coires of Liathach – dribbling with ice!

Coireag Dubh Mor under the main summit of Liathach (Spidean a Choire Leith). The obvious central icefalls are the lines of ‘Poacher’s Fall’ and ‘The Salmon Leap’.

Looking west to Beinn Dearg and Beinn Alligin as cloud associated with a decaying warm front moves in.
